1956 Draft Preview
The upcoming draft is not quite as exciting as previous years. This year’s class looks to be one of if not the weakest of the NAAF drafts so far. There isn’t as much high-end talent as we have seen in the past, especially when looking back at last season. RB Scott Mallard-White is the most skilled of the bunch. Many are talking about the RB being the best RB prospect since Alexei Volkov in 1952. Montreal might be tempted to take the running back 1st overall to replace Marchal in the near future. However, they might also be interested in the top defensive prospect in LB Konrad Aust. Aust might be the perfect replacement for Quinton Brewer next to Rusty McVee, with a great ability against the run.
After the top two, the skill seems to take a step back. RB Clifford Russell and WR Sammy Moss should be solid skill position players but might need a year or two to be a true threat. OL Georgio Stephan will likely go to a team in the latter half of the 1st round looking to build on their O-line but doubt there will be anyone reaching for him. The top QB is Oscar Rigano, a strong arm QB that is expected to go in the second round, but a team could take their chance on the young player to build their team around. The struggle with QBs is that most of the teams have a top-tier QB on their team and will be looking to fill other needs, so they may slip a lot further than expected.
