The Rouge had jumped ahead to a strong lead in the 3rd, however, Braddock would march the Independents back into the game with 17 straight points to force overtime.
Montreal would end up being the only team to score in overtime after WR Yahui Sun broke off a 45-yard play to set up RB Scott Mallard-White for the game-winning score.

The Steelheads were helped by a major injury to DB Jayson Klyde of the Rouge, which opened up the field for Todd Baker.
They also got some help from the defence with DL Lawrence Armstrong grabbing a forced fumble off of RB Scott Mallard-White.
Montreal was able to keep themselves in the game with their own offensive success, however, they fell just short in the end.

The Mariners’ offence was productive during the 2nd quarter capitalizing on DB Aquilio Ruiz’s first career interception to take a 3-7, as well as a strong drive as the half came to an end.
Indiana was frustrated throughout, especially Applewhite who was still making a lot of mistakes which often would either end with turnovers or lead to 2 and outs.
There is a possibility that the team may shift to QB Lyle Painter soon if Applewhite continues to struggle.

Their offence also jumped on the opportunities and got many chances to score with a strong performance from RB Stavros Black.
K Al Highlander was solid but did miss a field goal and an extra point which could have meant more for the Blacksmiths.
The Gold Stars’ struggles are a bit surprising but there are some concerns with the team’s new offensive coordinator Jack Dorsey over the offensive woes.

Bishop still had a strong day with a pair of passing touchdowns in the loss, but he is still frustrated considering the defence had a blown coverage the resulted in the last touchdown for Louisville.
QB Leonidas Dumont looked his best so far this season in the win, but still made some mistakes like the interception thrown to S Garet deVale.
Louisville’s own defence certainly helped with DB Oliver Langstrom bringing back a pick and the front seven being a little more consistent.

At this point, after only scoring 51 points in 4 games (average of 12.75 a game), the fans of Providence are calling for someone’s head and it is very likely going to come in the form of the coaching staff.

Boston was unable to make a 4th quarter comeback this time around on a LB Rusty McVee forced fumble on WR Alexei Dubois in the redzone that saved a sure touchdown.
The Toronto coaching staff seems to be continuing to take the somewhat underskilled Steelheads team and keeps pushing them to victories and they could easily make the push for the playoffs at this rate.

QB Michael Benedict continued to look comfortable in the starting role throwing 3 touchdowns in the win, however, he still made a couple of mistakes, throwing picks to DB Jackson Miles and DB Bob Ellis.
Halifax’s defence did bail out the young QB stalling the Tigers out for only a field goal on both interceptions.

The Raiders bounced back in their home-opener (finally), with a strong defensive win over the Victors.
LB William Washington II was a star for the Raiders with a forced fumble and 12 Tackles.

QB Lyle Painter was not quite as impressive as his 3-touchdown game from week 3, he threw a couple of interceptions, but still almost got the Victors back into the game, before they had sealed it late.

At this point, after only scoring 51 points in 4 games (average of 12.75 a game), the fans of Providence are calling for someone’s head and it is very likely going to come in the form of the coaching staff.

The Blue Wings D-line was back to full health as well and made things tough on the Thunder throughout the game with 4 sacks combined, which often stalled out Thunder drives.

Boston was unable to make a 4th quarter comeback this time around on a LB Rusty McVee forced fumble on WR Alexei Dubois in the redzone that saved a sure touchdown.
The Toronto coaching staff seems to be continuing to take the somewhat underskilled Steelheads team and keeps pushing them to victories and they could easily make the push for the playoffs at this rate.

BREAKING NEWS - GOLD STARS FIRE HEAD COACH AND OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR
After a shocking 0-4 start, the Gold Stars have decided to make some changes and have fired Head Coach Harry Meadows and Offensive Coordinator Jack Dorsey. Meadows had been the head coach since 1959, after moving over from the defensive coordinator role with the Royals. He had always seemed a bit shaky in the role but was able to maintain some success which did include a trip to the McCallister Cup in 1963. However, at this point, they had enough and decided to make a change. Going along with him is OC Jack Dorsey who had only been hired for the role this offseason, however, the abysmal offence has the team easily willing to move on from Dorsey.
To replace the two members of the staff, the team has hired former Boston defensive coordinator Carroll Moss as the interim head coach. Moss had been with the Independents for 5 seasons and won a title, and seems like a good fit for at least this season. For OC the team decided to go to an old reliable and hired Dean Parrish as the offensive coordinator. Parrish was once the Gold Stars’ OC from 1956-1958, before being promoted to HC after Roy Aguirre had been let go. He also spent 4 years with the Athletics as their head coach between 1959-1962. Hopefully, the two can turn things around for the Gold Stars who were certainly hoping to be a lot closer to the playoffs this season.

The Thunder would end their 3-game slide with a win at home against the Steelheads in overtime.
RB Greg Dix, who was in for RB Rodney Clark, would be the hero, breaking through for the game-winning score in the extra frame.
The Thunder defence looked stronger in the win as well being able to stall out a solid Steelheads’ offence in overtime on a big interception from S Johnny Berger to seal the win.
Toronto felt that they were in control of the game overall in the second half, but they could not pull away from the Thunder, and a couple of mistakes from the team as a whole would only help the Thunder.

The Gold Stars finally showed a bit of promise in a 21-28 loss to the Victors.
The offence was able to keep the team in the game until the end, some might have thought the team may finally get their first win of the season, however, the QB Lyle Painter has been playing his best football and was able to pull Indiana back to win their 5th game of the season.
Indiana now has just their second 3-game win streak in the team’s history with their last one coming at the end of the 1962 season.

The Rouge finally got a win on the road taking down the Mariners in Halifax.
QB Gene Bishop had a strong game once again throwing 3 more passing touchdowns to bring his total to 17 on the season.
The Rouge WR core has been a pain in the back of many teams this season as they continue to roll on as the league’s highest-scoring offence.
The Mariners tried to stay in the game, but QB Michael Benedict struggled down the stretch with a pair of interceptions thrown to DB Quentin Xavier and S Garet deVale.
There are some concerns with the Mariners now that they have dropped their last 3 games, some may want to potentially see a change be made at QB if Benedict can’t pick things up.

QB Riley Kiernan led an excellent game-winning drive while facing the pressure from the Blue Wings’ powerful D-line, to clinch the game on a touchdown to WR Max Sutton.
Buffalo almost had the win, with Lemieux throwing his touchdown pass with just over 2 minutes to go, but that ended up being too much time for Kiernan and the Tigers.

The Thunder would end their 3-game slide with a win at home against the Steelheads in overtime.
RB Greg Dix, who was in for RB Rodney Clark, would be the hero, breaking through for the game-winning score in the extra frame.
The Thunder defence looked stronger in the win as well being able to stall out a solid Steelheads’ offence in overtime on a big interception from S Johnny Berger to seal the win.
Toronto felt that they were in control of the game overall in the second half, but they could not pull away from the Thunder, and a couple of mistakes from the team as a whole would only help the Thunder.

The offence was able to keep the team in the game until the end, some might have thought the team may finally get their first win of the season, however, the QB Lyle Painter has been playing his best football and was able to pull Indiana back to win their 5th game of the season.
Indiana now has just their second 3-game win streak in the team’s history with their last one coming at the end of the 1962 season.

QB Gene Bishop had a strong game once again throwing 3 more passing touchdowns to bring his total to 17 on the season.
The Rouge WR core has been a pain in the back of many teams this season as they continue to roll on as the league’s highest-scoring offence.
The Mariners tried to stay in the game, but QB Michael Benedict struggled down the stretch with a pair of interceptions thrown to DB Quentin Xavier and S Garet deVale.
There are some concerns with the Mariners now that they have dropped their last 3 games, some may want to potentially see a change be made at QB if Benedict can’t pick things up.

Providence managed to tie the game up midway through the final frame which forced Buffalo to get more aggressive offensively again.

Toronto looked to bounce back, but QB Todd Baker was stripped by DL Pionk Bjorkkstrand on the ensuing drive which ultimately crushed the Steelheads, with the Raiders’ second touchdown of the game coming shortly after.
The 3-straight at home certainly helped give the Raiders momentum, as their defence stalled other teams out to only 21 points in 3 games (to which they scored 78). They remain the only team to not allow 100 total points yet this season.

London’s win puts them right in the race in the West once again fighting with the top 4.
Montreal’s tendency to fall short this season continues as they lose by 5 or less for the 4th time this season.
There are a lot of concerns about both the offence leaving too much time, but also the defence not being able to shut down opponents at the end of games.

The Thunder were able to feed off of the momentum of their overtime win over the Steelheads to grab another upset win over the Independents.
K Frank Hughes was clutch for the Thunder with 3 field goals on the day with RB Greg Dix having another solid day while RB Rodney Clark recovers from his injury.
Boston’s offence was not quite as dominant as it has been and was stalled out from a great performance from the Thunder secondary.

A classic Canadian battle came down to the kickers, and ultimately it was Nimrod who won out the battle and gave the Tigers their 5th win of the season after kicking 4 field goals.
London’s win puts them right in the race in the West once again fighting with the top 4.
Montreal’s tendency to fall short this season continues as they lose by 5 or less for the 4th time this season.
There are a lot of concerns about both the offence leaving too much time, but also the defence not being able to shut down opponents at the end of games.

The Royals kicked off the trade day craziness by selling. While the team had shown that they are somewhat competitive this season, after back-to-back losses and a desire to focus on building the team would make a couple of trades. The first would send 33-year-old LB John MacDonald to the Raiders for a 2nd Round Pick and LB Ronald Palmer. The Raiders are missing LB Deon Wiggins for what could be most of the season, so they are hoping to get some backup with the veteran in the lineup.

Within the next half hour, the Royals made a second trade that would send veteran WR Benedict Spencer to the Blue Wings for a 4th Rounder (plus both WR Billy Bond and WR Houston Parker to balance the rosters). Spencer had been the 5th WR on the Royals roster this season, and while he was fine with the role, he had asked if there was an opportunity to move to a better spot on another team, the Royals have the go-ahead. His spot on Buffalo will not be starting, but he will likely see the field especially with the struggling WR Daniel Irons needing some more support.

The next move was the big one of the day. The Toronto Steelheads were in dire need of a top-tier LB due to the fact that both LB Daniel Carpenter and LB Rusty McVee were on the verge of retirement. So with the Gold Stars’ struggles, they were able to close on a deal for LB Sebastian Andrews III. The full deal would be LB Sebastian Andrews III and a 3rd round pick to the Steelheads in exchange for Toronto’s 1st round pick, LB Kenneth Mercer, and Boston’s 5th round pick.
Andrews had only been acquired by the Gold Stars last trade deadline after he had been flipped from Montreal to Indiana and then to Providence. Andrews is a solid defender and he is right in his prime which should be good for the Steelheads to build around on the back end with the change of the guard coming to this offseason. As for Providence, they do give up the strong LB, but they do get a 1st round pick which is tough to come by prior to the actual draft, and a 24-year-old LB in Mercer who might be able to find himself as a #3 starter.

The Tigers have had a need at TE since Tranquille Rousseau had gone down with an injury. So they decided to go out and grab veteran TE Micheal Bowman III in exchange for a 2nd round pick and TE Danny Harmon. Bowman has been a solid scoring presence on the Gold Stars over his 11-year career, so he should be a great piece for the Tigers to add as they make another (and potentially final) push for the McCallister Cup.

Pittsburgh would receive WR Johnny Starwood and a 3rd Round Pick for the Wideout. It is likely WR Moe Schafer will slide into the WR3 spot for Pittsburgh down the stretch.

The Blue Wings rolled into Montreal to snap a 2-game losing streak while the Rouge continued to struggle with more and more mistakes throughout the game.
Charles Lemieux played really well in his home province, throwing a pair of touchdowns, one of which required him to make a stellar escape from the clutches of DL Lucas Kipling before throwing it to Pembroke in the endzone.
Another loss puts Montreal in a much more difficult spot with 3 games to go; QB Gene Bishop, who still leads the league in passing touchdowns, is certainly frustrated with the team’s play this season, feeling like his teammates are letting him down.
That’s to no surprise with 3 fumbles coming from offensive players that were not named Gene Bishop.

Ottawa’s offence struggled to get into the endzone, but they were consistent enough to make it down to field goal range 6 times.
Pittsburgh did struggle in the first half offensively with QB Buck Murphy, so they decided to make a change in the second half to QB Mike Key who did light a spark and got the team back into it and into overtime, however, they were not able to score in the extra frame.
Rookie LB Sam Wheeler also had his first forced fumble of his career in his first start for the Royals.

Pittsburgh did struggle in the first half offensively with QB Buck Murphy, so they decided to make a change in the second half to QB Mike Key who did light a spark and got the team back into it and into overtime, however, they were not able to score in the extra frame.
Rookie LB Sam Wheeler also had his first forced fumble of his career in his first start for the Royals.

Boston is getting a bit worried in the East division following the loss which may open up the door for Ottawa and Halifax to make a push towards a playoff spot.

A windy day in Buffalo created quite the battle that ended with the Victors coming from behind to retake their lead over the Blue Wings in the West Division race.
QB Lyle Painter was able to throw another pair of touchdowns in the win, continuing to reinforce a lot of the MVP talk he has been getting this season.
The Victors’ defence also came up huge late in the game to stop Buffalo and allow the offence to march down for the game-winning field goal.
It is a tough loss for Buffalo to take as they start to fall behind in the race down the stretch; each one of these games are becoming that much more important with how close the West Division is.

The Rouge were able to pull off an important win over the Royals on Saturday night which will give them the tiebreaker over their rivals this season, however, it came at the cost of QB Gene Bishop.
The QB jumped up to run the ball and he was simultaneously tackled by LB Joe Larkin and DL Olaf Viktorsson; Viktorsson was behind the play had gone for a lower hit, while Larkin went high, and the resulting play ended with Bishop’s leg bending in ways it was not supposed to.
Bishop would have to be carted off and would be done for the season (Viktorsson and Larkin both apologized and made sure to help the fallen QB).
QB Rigobert St-Hilaire would take over and with RB Scott Mallard-White leading the charge, were able to still give the Rouge the win to keep their slim playoff hopes alive.

QB Lee Rogers was on a mission in the first half with a pair of touchdowns that gave the Royals a massive lead early, and then K Ira Foster was able to stick the landing with 3 more field goals in the second half.

The Tigers escaped a much closer game than they expected to have with Pittsburgh with a win to keep themselves in the hunt in the West.
They were down heading into the final quarter, but Riley Kiernan made sure to give the team an 8-point lead with a few minutes to go.
Then, Pittsburgh managed to slip right back into the game with Mike Key leading a touchdown drive to pull them within 2 points.
The Tigers were able to stop them on the 2-point conversion to save the game and seal the win for London.

QB Terry Bourbon had one of his best career games with a pair of touchdowns including the game-winning score.
Boston was always a step behind the Gold Stars except when they took a 3-point lead in the final quarter but were unable to stop the Gold Stars’ aggressive push to pull off the upset.
With another shocking loss the East Division remains undecided with still 4 teams hanging around looking for what could likely be 2 playoff spots coming out of the East.

The Steelheads and Blue Wings went all the way to the bitter end of the 4th trading scores until the Steelheads managed to kick a game-winning field goal to be the first team to secure a playoff spot in the league (well and two other teams).
Toronto has shown a lot of resilience throughout this season and continues to show a lot of the doubters that they are wrong and they are a legitimate contender.
Buffalo is certainly feeling frustrated after their 4th loss in their last 5 falling all the way into a position of potentially missing the playoffs if they don’t come up with a win next week.
It could be especially frustrating with QB Charles Lemieux having a stellar game with 3 passing touchdowns.

The Royals came through with a huge win over the Mariners in a must-win game.
QB Lee Rogers was on a mission in the first half with a pair of touchdowns that gave the Royals a massive lead early, and then K Ira Foster was able to stick the landing with 3 more field goals in the second half.
The Mariners’ offensive struggles continued throughout the game, especially without WR Shane Steadman who left the game early.
The loss puts an end to what seemed like a promising season where the Mariners had started 3-1, but have gone 1-6 since.

The Tigers escaped a much closer game than they expected to have with Pittsburgh with a win to keep themselves in the hunt in the West.
They were down heading into the final quarter, but Riley Kiernan made sure to give the team an 8-point lead with a few minutes to go.
Then, Pittsburgh managed to slip right back into the game with Mike Key leading a touchdown drive to pull them within 2 points.
The Tigers were able to stop them on the 2-point conversion to save the game and seal the win for London.

Montreal managed to pull off the win with a late touchdown and then the only score of overtime.
The win for the Rouge keeps the team alive in the hunt for the playoffs, miraculously after being 3-6 heading into the final 3 weeks of the season.
The Raiders once again struggled offensively and could only get the touchdown they got early on in the game, which does bring heavy concerns over the team’s commitment to QB Stanley Troyer.

The Mariners managed to pull off the upset to close out their season with Boston slipping all the way to 6-6.
DB Aquilio Ruiz was the hero picking off QB Nathaniel Braddock in the redzone before getting a couple of blocks and taking the ball the distance to give the Mariners the shocking lead.
Outside of the interception, Braddock still had a good game and managed to close out his season with 24 passing touchdowns with a 2 touchdown performance.
Now, Boston must rely on help from some other teams in hopes of getting themselves into the playoffs.

With Boston losing earlier in the afternoon, the Raiders jumped all over the opportunity to take the East Division.
Their defence rose to the challenge by shutting Ottawa down until the 4th quarter, and this week the offence managed to turn it up with RB Dareion Fields scoring a couple of majors and had 145 rushing yards to top that.
The Royals managed to hang in there until the last possible week, but they could not find their way past the Raiders defence in the end, even if QB Landon Ross had a couple of chances.
With only 7 points allowed, the Raider now beat the Thunder’s record for least PA in a 12-game season (146 in 1963) with 141 this season.

Buffalo took it to the Blacksmiths in their last-ditch effort to try and sneak into the playoffs, putting up 47 points in the win.
Being up 41-14, the team then turned to QB Jack Owens to play out the rest of the game and still continued to put up a pair of field goals.
Pittsburgh obviously got punched in the mouth, but on the bright side, they got to see some potential out of QB Magnus Torrensen who was making his first start.
Torrensen threw a pair of touchdowns and only 1 interception for an overall solid performance from a first-time starter.

The Gold Stars continued their party crasher run with their 4th in their last 5 games ruining the Rouge’s late-season comeback.
QB Terry Bourbon looked good again for the Gold Stars who feel some confidence behind the QB who has adapted the offensive playstyle better than QB Connor O’Rourke has this season.
WR Cedric Peterson also balled out in a 2-touchdown performance making some key plays in the win.
QB Rigobert St-Hilaire gave it his best shot in replacement for the injured Gene Bishop, but his effort fell just short as the team will miss the playoffs after a severely disappointing season.

The Thunder were able to grab their 6th straight win on the road against the Tigers, closing out what looked like a disastrous 2-4 start that turned into an 8-4 finish.
The Tigers were close in the game, but they were unable to score in the final quarter and would fall short.
However, the good news for the Tigers is they do get the crossover which may mean they get a slightly easier path through the East.
As for the Thunder, they do get into the playoffs with a shot at a home game, while the defending champs of the Blue Wings will sit out of the playoffs.

It was a close duel but Baker’s game-winning touchdown to Landry was the decider that the Victors' offence was unable to answer.
Both teams will be ready for their playoff matchups, with the Victors now having to go on the road in the playoffs while Toronto gets some rest ahead of the West Division final.

These two teams are very similar. If I have to put my bets on any QB, I would likely take Braddock at this point, who has consistently been able to lead a last-minute drive as if it was nothing.

We finally get to see the battle of the midwest in the playoffs with Indiana making their first-ever playoff appearance. Louisville will be their opponent and they certainly will not be an easy team to play as they have quietly rattled off 6-straight wins to go from 2-4 to 8-4. Indiana was the last team to beat Louisville (in Louisville) back in their week 6 battle. I think both teams will have a great shot at winning this game, however, I do think the Thunder will have a slight advantage in both their experience and the current hot streak they have been riding.

The Mariners managed to pull off the upset to close out their season with Boston slipping all the way to 6-6.
DB Aquilio Ruiz was the hero picking off QB Nathaniel Braddock in the redzone before getting a couple of blocks and taking the ball the distance to give the Mariners the shocking lead.
Outside of the interception, Braddock still had a good game and managed to close out his season with 24 passing touchdowns with a 2 touchdown performance.
Now, Boston must rely on help from some other teams in hopes of getting themselves into the playoffs.

With Boston losing earlier in the afternoon, the Raiders jumped all over the opportunity to take the East Division.
Their defence rose to the challenge by shutting Ottawa down until the 4th quarter, and this week the offence managed to turn it up with RB Dareion Fields scoring a couple of majors and had 145 rushing yards to top that.
The Royals managed to hang in there until the last possible week, but they could not find their way past the Raiders defence in the end, even if QB Landon Ross had a couple of chances.
With only 7 points allowed, the Raider now beat the Thunder’s record for least PA in a 12-game season (146 in 1963) with 141 this season.

Buffalo took it to the Blacksmiths in their last-ditch effort to try and sneak into the playoffs, putting up 47 points in the win.
Being up 41-14, the team then turned to QB Jack Owens to play out the rest of the game and still continued to put up a pair of field goals.
Pittsburgh obviously got punched in the mouth, but on the bright side, they got to see some potential out of QB Magnus Torrensen who was making his first start.
Torrensen threw a pair of touchdowns and only 1 interception for an overall solid performance from a first-time starter.

The Gold Stars continued their party crasher run with their 4th in their last 5 games ruining the Rouge’s late-season comeback.
QB Terry Bourbon looked good again for the Gold Stars who feel some confidence behind the QB who has adapted the offensive playstyle better than QB Connor O’Rourke has this season.
WR Cedric Peterson also balled out in a 2-touchdown performance making some key plays in the win.
QB Rigobert St-Hilaire gave it his best shot in replacement for the injured Gene Bishop, but his effort fell just short as the team will miss the playoffs after a severely disappointing season.

The Thunder were able to grab their 6th straight win on the road against the Tigers, closing out what looked like a disastrous 2-4 start that turned into an 8-4 finish.
The Tigers were close in the game, but they were unable to score in the final quarter and would fall short.
However, the good news for the Tigers is they do get the crossover which may mean they get a slightly easier path through the East.
As for the Thunder, they do get into the playoffs with a shot at a home game, while the defending champs of the Blue Wings will sit out of the playoffs.

It was a close duel but Baker’s game-winning touchdown to Landry was the decider that the Victors' offence was unable to answer.
Both teams will be ready for their playoff matchups, with the Victors now having to go on the road in the playoffs while Toronto gets some rest ahead of the West Division final.
