DB Mingan Oliver came through with strong play as well, reeling in an interception on the day.
Boston was in control for a while, but after WR Ellis Lindholm left the game and the Royals’ defence found some solid ground, it was tougher to stay ahead.

The Tigers escaped with a narrow win over the Thunder on the back of Nimrod Handsworth making his first career start at kicker.
Handsworth did miss his first field goal attempt, but he was able to knock home his next two to steal the game from Louisville.
Louisville’s secondary was having a good day with S Johnny Berger and DB Alexander Bradley both grabbing picks off of QB Riley Kiernan which helped the Thunder score both of their touchdowns.
RB Clifford Russell ended up being the key for the Tigers as he was able to get through the Thunder front 7 and score a pair of TDs.

An offensive duel on Saturday night ended with the Rouge grabbing their first win of the season.
The Blue Wings showed a lot of fight in this game especially with DL Lonnie Vincent grabbing a forced fumble and S Frazier Brooks getting a pick to set up some scores.
QB Angelo Medina showed his case for being a viable QB in the NAAF still helping the team to a 31 point day.
QB Stanislav Ovechkin also fought for his job today putting in a pair of TD passes and 265 Passing Yards.
Mallard-White and DB Quentin Xavier were the other notable players for the rouge with Mallard-White scoring 2-times and Xavier grabbing a pick.
RB Jimmy Golden got a 2-point convert for the Blue Wings in some of his first action, and Pierre LeStrange finally scored his first TD as a member of his hometown Rouge.

A difficult game in the rain ended with Ottawa tying the game on the last play after falling behind 23-6 in the second half.
Turnovers were the issue for the Royals who had 4 on the day, DL Vinny Brown, LB Scotty Williams, and LB Harrison Bennett each had a fumble and S Shawn Jensen had an interception.

A battle of field goals in the rain once again in a gritty match between the Gold Stars and the Raiders.
RB Connor Riley did what he could from the backfield against the weaker Providence defence, scoring a touchdown in the process.
RB Marcus Devonshire also did what he could against the injury-riddled Raiders' defence and got the Gold Stars into scoring range many times in the game.

The Athletics got back in the win column in a great win over the Louisville Thunder.
Louisville had a tough time on offence with QB Leonidas Dumont leaving the game in the first quarter; Ollie Rogers tried to step in but was not able to get much going until the 4th quarter.
The three RBs of the Athletics (Lawrence Sharp, Bernad Alston, and Leo Ravelli) combined for 189 Rushing yards on the day with Lawrence Sharp leading the way with 93.DB Wesley Scott and S Shawn Jenson both had picks for the Athletics as well.

The Rouge got the best of the Royals in their rivalry week battle with QB Stanislav Ovechkin leading the way with 2 passing touchdowns.
This is also the first time the Rouge have beaten the Royals since Week 5 of 1954.QB Jean Matieau and the Royals offence struggled to get the ball moving and Matieau even made a rare mistake late and threw a pick that Montreal DB Quentin Xavier would take to the house.

Buffalo’s late comeback attempt with 2nd string QB Randy Sellers just was not enough as the Tigers rolled to another win to regain top spot in the West Division.
QB Angelo Medina was hurt in the first half and Sellers took over for the veteran QB; Sellers would go on to throw his first career touchdown late in the game, but the Tigers would not allow for much else after that.
QB Riley Kiernan continued to look good throwing 3 touchdowns in the win, and the defence helped out a lot in the first half with LB Wilson Rockwood-Barnes and DB Jackson Miles each getting a turnover.

Buffalo’s late comeback attempt with 2nd string QB Randy Sellers just was not enough as the Tigers rolled to another win to regain top spot in the West Division.
QB Angelo Medina was hurt in the first half and Sellers took over for the veteran QB; Sellers would go on to throw his first career touchdown late in the game, but the Tigers would not allow for much else after that.
QB Riley Kiernan continued to look good throwing 3 touchdowns in the win, and the defence helped out a lot in the first half with LB Wilson Rockwood-Barnes and DB Jackson Miles each getting a turnover.

The Raiders would acquire RB Johnnie Stafford and OL Forrest Cross from Buffalo in exchange for OL Sun Guanyu and a 1961 3rd Round Pick.
Stafford will fill the needed starting role for the Raiders, however, he will likely step in as the #2 back in their week 7 game due to only having one full practice with the team. As for Buffalo, Guanyu will be a good long-term addition being only 25-years-old. He will slide in for Forrest Cross on the O-line.

The win came with some help from several Tigers’ mistakes and the rain.

The Victors had nothing on their end, QB Stanley Troyer would leave the game and would be replaced by QB Andrew Sexton who could not get past the vengeful Tigers’ defence.

QB Angelo Medina likely ended his career with a huge touchdown run to give Buffalo a fighting chance, but that was all he could manage.

The Ottawa Royals managed to pull off the late playoff push with back-to-back wins to close out the season.
Matieau threw for another pair of TDs while RB Alexei Volkov punched in a pair of touchdowns as well.
Worcester was unable to finish their drives throughout the game and ended up kicking a lot of field goals.
QB Gene Bishop also had a couple of mistakes with a pair of interceptions thrown to DB Mingan Oliver and DB Petr Westerberg.

The Thunder were able to put themselves in a position to potentially sneak into the playoffs with a win over the Gold Stars.
Alexander Bradley had a big pick-6 in the first that gave the team momentum which helped them to the end of the game.
To make Providence’s horrible season worse, QB Connor O’Rourke was injured on the pick-6 play taking a big hit as he threw.
QB Rigobert St-Hilaire was fine and was able to run the ball on the group, but his lack of experience in the Gold Stars offence cost them a bit.
However, the good news for Providence is that they will have the 1st overall pick in the draft.

The Rouge played one of their best games in order to clinch their first playoff spot since 1954.
The win also knocked the Thunder out of the playoffs.
RB Scott Mallard-White came through with a strong performance taking in three touchdowns and rushing for 187 yards.
Boston was right there with them behind the arm of QB Nathaniel Braddock who found all 3 of his starting WRs first touchdowns.
DB Clayton Malone had the lone turnover in the game with a pick on his former team.
Mount Royal Stadium was going nuts as Kettinger kicked the game-winning field goal, there were a few people that got onto the field after the game, but was cleared up fairly quickly.
Despite the loss, the Independents were still able to secure their first division title since 1954 with the Athletics loss to the Royals.

The Long Island Raiders were able to win their third straight West Division title with a huge 17-23 win on the road.
Unfortunately, the battle came out with major casualties for both sides.
QB Riley Kiernan was the first, leaving the game near the start of the 2nd, and was replaced by QB Christian Stewart.
Not long into the second quarter, the Raiders would also lose their starting QB with Lyle Painter leaving the game with a more severe injury than Kiernan.
QB Brian Meadows took over for the Raiders and helped get them into range for Johnnie Stafford to punch it in.
Stewart did his best, but the Raiders' defence turned up the pressure and came after him and he was unable to get the Tigers back to the endzone after Max Sutton had scored.
Both teams will be without their starting QBs heading into their playoff games, and likely only Kiernan would be able to return for the McCallister Cup at the earliest.

Montreal Rouge VS. Ottawa Royals - Mount Royal Stadium - September 17, 1960 - 3 PM ET - Forecast: Partly Cloudy
Head-to-Head: W6 - MTL 31-17 OTT, W11 OTT 34-24 MTL
A classic rivalry will be the kickoff to the 1960 NAAF playoffs. The two teams met in the playoffs back in 1953 which was the last time the Royals were not in the McCallister Cup. During this season, it was a strong start for both of these teams, however, both teams fell off in the second half landing them both facing the potential of missing the playoffs heading into week 12. Montreal’s offence has been solid, but inconsistent as a whole, but after a strong win in week 12, there seems to be momentum behind the QB Stanislav Ovechkin led crew. Their defence has made improvements, but there is no way they outplay the Royals' offence. Ottawa does have the advantage of experience as they have had for many years now, but back to back wins gives them momentum going in as well. In the end, Montreal will have a huge advantage with their crowd, but it is tough to bet against Matieau and the Royals.
My Pick: Royals
London Tigers VS. Worcester Athletics - Western Fair Stadium - September 17, 1960 - 7 PM ET - Forecast: Clear
Head-to-Head: LDN 45-17 WOR
While the lone battle between the Tigers and Athletics was ugly, it is unlikely the same will happen here with the Tigers rolling in with QB Christian Stewart instead of QB Riley Kiernan. It is still important to note that Stewart is a solid QB and one of the best backups in the league, so he certainly won’t hurt London. Worcester seems to be a complete wildcard, as they have been all season, but there are a lot of questions about if they can take on the best of the best being 2-4-1 against playoff teams this season. London will look to control the game and make things easy on Stewart while Worcester is likely to be aggressive and make the most of every opportunity they can. The Tigers still look like the top dogs here, and I can’t pick against them.
